Mr Meshack Dikana

Meshack Dikana is the founder of Envirogiene. He started his career in Mine Ventilation, including Occupational Hygiene, Radiation Protection and Environmental Management at Anglovaal�s Hartebeestfontein Gold Mine, Stilfontein, in 1994 following two years of teaching at a Secondary school.

He obtained his Certificate in Mine Environmental Control/Occupational Hygiene in October 2002 whilst working for Impala Platinum in Rustenburg, where Meshack was part of the team that implemented ISO 14001 up to certification in 2002. He was also responsible for Ventilation planning and measurements at 14 Shaft Decline Project, a trackless section of 14 Shaft.

Meshack has worked in various companies across the commodity spectrum, including Marula Platinum, South Deep Gold Mine, Gold One International, and Jwaneng Diamond Mine in the south of Botswana. Over the years he gained valuable experience in the different sectors of the industry, as well as experience in various projects including green- and brownfields. During the three years spent in Botswana, he was part of the Botswana Chamber of Mines HSE Committee and Occupational Health Working Group, and participated in the development and review of National Standards through the Botswana Bureau of Standards.

He also spent three years at Exxaro Resources, where, reporting to the Group Advisor: Occupational Health, he was responsible for Occupational Health (Incorporating Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Medicine), Ventilation and Radiation: policy, strategy, assurance, staff development as well as coaching and mentoring across the Group, which included mining and industrial operations in coal, zinc and lead as well as mineral sands (ilmenite, zircon, monazite, rutile, titanium etc.). During this period he also represented Exxaro at various fora, including the Chamber of Mines GEE (Group Environmental Engineers) Committee; MOSH; and the Mine Health and Safety Council.

Meshack spent a couple of years in consulting, which involved carrying the 12.1 appointment on a part-time basis for various clients in the different sectors of the industry. Examples include Hotazel Manganese Mine in the Northern Cape and various quarries and brick works across South Africa.

Meshack is a qualified Radiation Protection Officer for Mining and Minerals Processing. He is currently registered with SAIOH (Southern African Institute of Occupational Hygiene) as an Occupational Hygiene Technologist and is planning to achieve the status of Registered Occupational Hygienist before the end of 2017.
